The Mythical Mystical Poshmark Algorithm

Ah yes, the infamous Poshmark algorithm, the all knowing, all controlling force that decides whether or not you'll be successful. How does the the Poshmark algorithm work? It's taken on a life of its own. Turns out, much of what you hear is a myth. While there is an algorithm, it is not all knowing and doesn't work the way most people think it does. In fact, there's a pretty hard and fast rule - when you share, your item goes to the top of the search results...period. Following others, sharing others' items, these things are good for driving traffic to your closet, but it's sharing your own items that get them sold.

Most people shop online when they know exactly what they're looking for. Poshmark is no exception to that rule. The majority of sales are made from individuals entering what they're looking for in the search bar. Let me walk you through an exercise to demonstrate.

Go to your closet and share an item. Now, copy the listing title and paste it in the search bar. Click search. Assuming you have a descriptive title with the item brand, size, and other descriptors, you should see your result pretty close to the top of the search results. This is because the search results are compiled using two methods. One, it looks at how closely a listing matches the search criteria. THEN, it looks at who has shared their item most recently.

When you do this, you want to see your listing close to the top of the search results....every time. Because, if that's what you're seeing, that's also what potential buyers are seeing. So, the more you share, the more you will be seen, which equals better chances for sales. Of course, that's not the only element, but it's a huge one!

I love this test because you can do it as often as you would like and the results will be the same. There is no all knowing force behind the curtains controlling if anyone sees your listings when you share.
