Communicate With Shoppers Privately

Have you ever wanted to contact a buyer, but didn't feel like leaving a comment for everyone to see? You CAN send private messages on Poshmark! The question is, when is it appropriate to reach out and how?

When To Send A Private Message

Let me first say that I absolutely, under any circumstances, advise against contacting someone who hasn't reached out to you first or shown interest in your closet in any way. In other words, DO NOT go to random closets and leave messages on their "Meet The Posher" listing or listings for items they have for sale. It's tacky and unprofessional. Not to mention, doing so often annoys shoppers and pretty much guarantees they won't come within a mile of your closet.

Conversing with potential buyers on Poshmark is all about connecting with the person on the other side of the screen. If done correctly, reaching out helps humanize both the customer and yourself. Shoppers will see you as more than a means to an end AND will feel like they are more important to you than the money they will be putting in your pocket. Here are a couple scenarios where it makes sense to reach out to a shopper privately:

1) When you're trying to drive traffic to your closet to market a closet sale.

2) When you want to keep shoppers engaged in shopping your closet.

Marketing Your Closet Sale

Getting the word out about a closet sale can be a challenge, but reaching out to shoppers who have already shown interest in one of your listings is a great way to attract attention. Let's say you are running a BOGO free sale (buy one get one free) on all items in your closet that are $25 and under. You notice you are getting likes on items that qualify for the sale, but nobody is creating bundles or sending offers. It's probably safe to assume that these likers don't know about your sale, so, why not reach out to them privately to let them know ? If done correctly, shoppers will feel like you're doing THEM a favor and will likely take another look at what you have. The more traffic, the more potential for sales! In my experience, this is a great way to establish rapport quickly and boost sales. In fact, when I'm running a closet sale, about 75% percent of purchases made are a result of my reaching out directly to shoppers that have liked my items. The verbiage I like to use, goes something like this: "Hello! Just so you know, everything in my closet $25 and under is buy one get one free right now. The item(s) you like qualifies, so I thought I'd mention it"

Keeping Shoppers Engaged

Another scenario in which being able to reach out is helpful is when you see that a shopper is 'liking' multiple items in your closet, but no other actions follow. Are they going to build their own bundle? Are they expecting me to build a bundle for them? Should I send offers on each item separately? And the list of questions goes on and on. In this situation, it's important to keep in mind that every shopper is different in how they use the 'like' and 'bundling' features on Poshmark, so you will want to tread carefully here. You don't want to make an incorrect assumption and annoy a potential customer. This is why I recommend reaching out using a personable approach before you do anything else. Again, it's all about letting the buyer know you see them as more than a means to an end. The verbiage I like to use in this situation goes something like this: "Hello, I noticed that you've liked multiple items from my closet. Feel free to take your time looking around and I'm here if you need anything".

How To Send A Private Message
